About
When I shaped my first board in 2015, it was clear to me then, I wanted to do this for the rest of my life. I packed up my push broom and began my job hunt amongst the most prestigious surfboard factories in San Diego, soon figuring out that landing a gig in such reputable factories with no βinβ and essentially no experience, was easier said than done. That wasn't enough to discourage me. For the next several years, I set up my own shaping bays in EZ-up tents, friend's back yards and garages, typically resulting with less than thrilled neighbors and inevitable downfall.
After getting away with shaping in my own garage for several years, I was given the opportunity to take over the old Tiger G factory, where I was getting most of my glass work done at the time. I was doing it, and nothing was going to stop me. Even if it meant moving out of my Ocean Beach apartment and sleeping in my truck with two dogs, I was going to see this through. Now, after the better part of a decade and several hundred boards later, I still approach each shape with as much enthusiasm and excitement as the first. Being located in surfboard alley in South County San Diego, I've been fortunate to tap into the wealth of knowledge amongst the local board building community that I've looked up to for years and now call many of which my good friends.
Having hand shaped for several local labels as a ghost shaper and under tutelage of San Diego's finest, I've honed in my craft and look forward to further refining my work. While the majority of my boards consist of classic plan shapes with modern design aspects, I like to keep an open mind and try not to limit myself to any particular category or style as I believe they all have their place. From 11β hand planes to 11' gliders and everything in between, I enjoy shaping them all.
